Item 1:
Introduction of the New Members of the EFCE - WPM.
Prof. P. Ditl a chairman of the EFCE-WPM introduced a new delegate of the WPM Prof. M. Kraume (Institut für Verfahrenstechnik, Technische Univesität Berlin). He excused many thanks for active participation in the EFCE-WPM Events to Prof. F. Liepe (Germany) who resigned his membership in the EFCE-WPM.
Item 2:
Adoption of the Minutes of the WPM Meeting held in Disneyland Paris Convention Centre, Marne-la-Vallée (France) in March 20th, 1997
No amendments were requested. The Minutes were approved and adopted.
Item 3:
Activities of the WP on Mixing of the Bulgarian Society of Chemical Engineers
Dr. S. Vlaev (Chairman of the WPM of the Bulgarian Society of Chemical Engineers) presented a report on the recent activities of the WP on Mixing of the Bulgarian Society of Chemical Engineers. The delegates discussed this report and appreciate the role of the EFCE-WPM in setting up new national WPMs. Prof. M. Zumer mentioned a possibility to organize a regional Conferences on Mixing, e.g. in co-operation of organizers from Slovenia, Austria and Italy. Main points of the report are summarized in Enclosure 1.
Item 4:
Activities of the WP on Mixing of the Hungarian Society of Chemical Engineers.
Dr. J. Gyenish (Chairman of the WPM of the Hungarian Society of Chemical Engineers) presented a report on the recent activities of the WP on Mixing of the Hungarian Societies of Chemical Engineers. The delegates expressed their hope that in the near future the duplicity of the WPMs on Mixing (at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and at the other chemical engineering community) will be removed. Main points of the report are summarized in Enclosure 2.
Item 5:
Activities of the WP on Mixing of the Polish Chemical Engineering Society.
Prof. F. Strek presented in absence a report on the activities of the WP on Mixing of the Chemical Engineering Society in Poland and Polish Academy of Sciences within the period 1997 – 1998. The delegates discussed the report and they expressed their hope that it will be possible to nominate Prof. J. Baldyga a Chairman of the Polish WPM as the second member of the EFCE-WPM from Poland. Main points of the report are summarized in Enclosure 3.
Item 6:
Recommended Symbols, Terms and Units in Mixing within Europe.
The final version of the Proposal “Recommended Symbols, Terms and Units in Mixing within Europe (date of issue: 26/1/1982) was discussed 15 years ago at the EFCE-WPM Meeting without final approval. A few problems of symbols had not been accepted unanimously at the Meeting.
The delegates present discussed carefully the above mentioned Proposal and agreed with unification of the up to date unaccepted symbols as well as with introduction of some new terms and symbols (e.g. gas flow rate, impeller pumping capacity, gas flow rate number, impeller pumping number, etc.). Dr. Tauscher summarized the new version of the Proposal – see Enclosure 4.
It is expected that enclosed version of “Recommended Symbols, Terms and Units in Mixing within Europe” will fit to all national nomenclatures and only weighty and unambiguous corrections and objections can be accepted. All such comments should be sent the EFCE-WPM Secretariat before the end of September 1998 when the final version of the Proposal will be distributed as an official document of the EFCE-WPM to the EFCE General Secretariat.
The final version of the “Recommended Symbols, Terms and Units within Europe is enclosed – see Enclosure 4.
Item 7:
Activities of the Industrial Committee within the EFCE-WPM.
Prof. J. Bertrand a Chairman of the Industrial Committee within the EFCE-WPM informed the WPM delegates about a one-day Symposium on April 22nd in Lyon (France), the highlights of which was Industrial Scaling-up. This Symposium took place in the head office of the French company MIXEL. 58 persons were present at this Symposium: 9 from Universities and 49 from industry (22 manufacturers and 27 industrial users of mixing) – see Enclosure 5 with list of symposium participants and the topics presented at the Symposium.
WPM members discussed the report and they expressed their agreement with a proposal of Dr. Bertrand to organize such a useful Events for industrial people at European scale and they recommended to him to prepare a project of such a symposium in the near future.
Item 8:
Activities of the Conference Committee within the EFCE-WPM.
Dr. I. Foøt a Chairman of the Conference Committee within the EFCE-WPM prepared a “List of Conferences on Mixing and Sessions on Mixing of the Conferences of Chemical Engineering in 1998” (see Enclosure 6). The delegates appreciated that at least three different continents (Australia, America and Europe) consist of conferences on Mixing in 1998.
Item 9.
Activities of the Awards Committee within the EFCE-WPM.
