EFCE-WPM Secretary
Item 1:
Adoption of the Minutes of the EFCE-WPM Meeting held in Cambridge (UK) on September 22nd 1994
No amendments were requested. The Minutes were approved and adopted.
Item 2:
Activities of the WP on Mixing of the Russian Society of Chemical Engineers
Dr. V. M. Barabash (Chairman of the WPM of the Russian Society of Chemical Engineers) presented a report on the activities of the WP on Mixing of the Russian Society of Chemical Engineers. The delegates discussed this report and expressed their believe that the R&D in mixing technology in Russia will soon arrive the well known level in the past. They appreciated an excellent organization and programme of the Conference "Mixing in Liquid Media" organized at first on the international level. Main points of the report are summarized in Enclosure 1.
Item 3:
Activities of the Bulgarian Society of Chemical Engineering
Dr. S. D. Vlaev (Chairman of the WPM of the Bulgarian Society of Chemical Engineering) presented in absence a report on the activities of the WP on Mixing of the Bulgarian Society of Chemical Engineering. The delegates discussed this report and appreciated above all the International Summer Schools organized every three years in Varna. They would considered some of the EFCE-WPM Meetings on the occasion of this Event. Main points of the report are summarized in Enclosure 2.
Item 4:
Activities of the WP on Mixing of the Hungarian Society of Chemical Engineers
Dr. J. Gyenis (Chairman of the WPM of the Hungarian Society of Chemical Engineers) presented a report on the activities of the WP on Mixing of the Hungarian Society of Chemical Engineers. The delegates discussed this report and appreciated a leading role of the WP on Mixing in Hungary at the organization of the Meetings of the R&D people dealing with mixing technology in Hungary. Main points of the report are summarized in Enclosure 3.
Item 5:
Activities of the Industrial Committee within the EFCE-WPM
Dr J. Bertrand a Chairman of the Industrial Committee within the EFCE-WPM gave a report on the activities of the Committee. On the occasion of the French Conference on Mixing in Industry of Fine Chemicals held in Bolbec (May 31th - June 1st, 1995) a round table discussion about possibility to develope an information database of the manufacturers of mixing devices in Europe was taking place. Dr. Bertrand informed, further, the Meeting about the activities of the BHRG (UK) in the areas of interest of the EFCE-WPM. The delegates discussed the report and expressed their hope about preparation of the above mentioned database in the near future. Main points of the conclusions from the round table discussion, published in the journal Procedique (No. 16, July 1995), are summarized in Enclosure 4.
Item 6:
Activities of the Conference Committee within the EFCE-WPM
Dr. I. Foøt a Chairman of the Conference Committee within the EFCE-WPM gave a report on the activities of the Committee. Five International or National Conferences on Mixing and two National Conferences on Chemical Engineering with Sessions of Mixing have taken place this year. The delegates appreciated such a number of Events in the area of R&D of mixing technology during 1995 and asked the Conference Committee to assist at the preparation of the time table of various Conferences on Mixing in the future to avoid an overlap of their terms. They recommended to all Members of the EFCE-WPM to inform Dr. Foøt in advance about the planned National Conferences on Mixing or about the planned National Conferences on Chemical Enginnering with Sessions of Mixing. List of all the Conferences on Mixing and Sessions of Mixing of the Conferences on Chemical Engineering in 1995 is included in Enclosure 5.
Item 7:
WPM Event in 1996
Prof. P. Ditl informed the WPM delegates about preparation of the Microsymposium on Mechanical Aspects of Mixing. It will be organized as an EFCE-WPM Event in 1996 on the occasion of the 12th International Congress CHISA to be held in Prague (Czech Republic) in August 25-29, 1996. The Microsymposium will cover the following topics:
Item 8:
The 5th World Congress of Chemical Engineering
The 5th World Congress of Chemical Engineering will be held in San Diego (CA, USA), July, 14-17, 1996. There will be a Session on Liquid Mixing organized by the North American Mixing Forum (NAMF) during the Congress. The Call for Papers for the Session on Liquid Mixing of the Congress is enclosed (Enclosure 6).
Item 9:
WPM Event in 1997
The 7th European Conference on Mixing will be held in Paris (France), March 18-21, 1997. A Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference Dr. J. Bertrand informed the Meeting about its preparation. The members of the Scientific Committee of the conference will evaluate two-pages abstracts of submitted contributions before their acceptance or rejection. Then they will evaluate full texts of accepted papers before their acceptance as final manuscripts for the Conference Proceedings (available at the Conference). The delegates discussed all the proposed steps and terms of the Conference preparation and they unanimously agreed with their introduction. They did not agree with inclusion of the Chapter "Powders" into the Programme of the Conference. They recommended to organize a Meeting of the Conference Scientific Committee just before notification of the contributions (probably in April 1995). All details about the Conference Programme and its preparation are included in Enclosure 7 (First Announcement and Call for Papers).
Item 10:
Miscellaneous
The 1st European Conference on Chemical Engineering will be held in Florence (Italy) at the beginning of May 1997.
The American EFCE-WPM overseas members informed the WPM Meeting about the 16th NAMF Mixing Conference. It will be held in June 1997 in Williamsburg (VA, USA).
Prof. Van den Akker informed the EFCE-WPM Meeting about an interest of the WP on Mixing in the Netherlands to organize the 10th European Conference on Mixing in 2000.
Prof. F. Liepe informed the Meeting about the effort of the WPM of the GVC-VDI (Germany) to define experimental standards for measurement of various quantities at mixing of fluids and heterogeneous systems (e.g. impeller power input, blending time, suspension of solid particles at mixing, gas hold-up, etc.). Standardization of the pilot plant stirred systems as well as experimental techniques for determination of mixing quantity and quality is necessary because of existence of many experimental and methodological errors at their realization. The delegates discussed the above mentioned activity and they recommended to prepare a report on this matter for the next European Conference on Mixing in 1997. Main ideas of the report presented by prof. F. Liepe are summarized in Enclosure 8.
