Item 2:
Adoption of the Minutes of the WPM Meeting held in Bradford (UK) at Bradford University on July 7th, 1999.
No amendments were requested. The Minutes were approved and adopted.

Item 3:
Activities of the WP on Mixing of the Dutch Royal Society of Chemical Engineers.
Prof. H. van den Akker informed the delegates that there is no WP on Mixing in the Netherlands. A few people interested in mixing, however, participated in preparation of the 10th European Conference on Mixing and attended various International and National Conferences on Mixing and Chemical Engineering. The delegates appreciated important contribution of the present as well as past delegates of the Netherlands in the EFCE-WPM and suggested to nominate the second Dutch Delegate to the WPM as soon as possible.

Item 4:
Activities of the WP on Mixing of the Italian Society of Chemical Engineers (AIDIC).
Prof. G. Baldi presented a short report about activities of the WP on Mixing of the Italian Society of Chemical Engineers (AIDIC) - see Enclosure 1. Delegates discused the report and expressed their agreement with a proposal made the Italian Delegates to organize the 12th European Conference on Mixing in 2006 in Italy.

Item 5:
The EFCE-WPM website.
Dr. I. Foøt a Secretary of the WPM informed about seting up the EFCE-WPM website included in the EFCE website (www.efce.org) - see Enclosure 2. The delegates discussed the website content and added their e-mail adresses to the list of the WPM Members and Standing Guests. They discussed a possibility of discussion within the WPM webpages via the Discussion Forum of the EFCE-WPM - the 9th Chapter of the WPM website.

Item 6:
EFCE Projects on "Sustainable Technologies".
Present EFCE effort is focused on participation of the WP´s in future plausible EFCE Projects on "Sustainable Technologies". Prof. P. Ditl informed the WPM Meeting about a one-day EFCE Joint Meeting in the 3rd quarter of 2000 to signal the formal opening of this programme.

Item 7:
Activities of the Conference Committee within the EFCE - WPM.
Dr. I. Foøt a Chairman of the Conference Committee within the EFCE-WPM prepared a "List of Conferences on Mixing and Sessions on Mixing of the Conferences of Chemical Engineering in 2000" (see Enclosure 3). Delegates discussed above all the activities of the Subject Group of Fluid Mixing in UK covering a few Symposia on special topic of mixing technology. Further the Delegates discussed enormous number of Conferences, Congresses and other Events organized each year being rather important but very expensive, as well. They recommended to discuss at the EFCE level to reduce a number of such Events or to co-ordinate them better, e.g. to select some joint Conferences of the various EFCE-WP´s, only.

Item 8:
Activities of the Awards Committee within the EFCE - WPM.
Prof. H. van den Akker informed the WPM Delegates that two sponsoring companies from the Netherlands - DSM and AKZO Nobel offered amount 1000.- EUR each for EFCE-WPM Awards.

Prof. P. Ditl made a proposal to nominate Prof. J. M. Smith (University of Surrey, UK) for an Award for reputable person in Mixing. Prof. Smith published many important contributions for mixing technology and belonged to the main representative of mixing community in Europe for previous 30 years. The WPM Delegates unanimously approved Prof. Smith´s nomination. The Award (1000.- EUR) was announced during the Banquet in Scheveningen on Tuesday, July 4th, 2000.

Prof. J. M. Smith a Chairman of the Awards Committee within the EFCE asked all the EFCE Delegates present to suggest nominations for Young Workers Award based mainly of a masters or doctoral thesis and their publications. Nominees should not exceed 35 years of age and the period after defences of their Theses should not exceed 5 years. Nominations should be sent to Prof. Smith by e-mail (j.smith@surrey.ac.uk) until September 1, 2000. The general terms of the Award for Young Workers are mentioned in Enclosure 4.

The EFCE-WPM Delegates approved the EFCE-WPM Award Committee: Chairman: Prof. J. M. Smith, Members: Prof. F. Magelli, Prof. P. Ditl, Prof. H. van den Akker, Dr. R. Geisler. Prof. H. van den Akker Chairman of the 10th European Conference on Mixing informed the Meeting that the Dutch Conference Organizing Committee selected 98 Abstracts (36 as an oral presentation, 44 as a poster presentation and 18 as oral or poster) from 128 submitted Abstracts. The International Advisory Committee of the Conference reviewed the full texts of the selected papers and recommended 34 oral papers (2 review papers included) and 33 posters for presentation. The length of the Conference (3 days) seemed to be maximum and was about half a day longer than previous ones. For more spare of the papers accepted Prof. van den Akker suggested to organize paralles sections of the future Conferences. The WPM Delegates appreciated the Conference Proceedings available for the Conference participants and, especially the well organized Conference PosterSessions. They expressed their many thanks for excellent Conference organization as well as its preparation.
The Delegates discussed broadly the proposal made by Prof. van den Akker and they disagreed with organization of paralel Sessions during the Conference. Mixing covers multidisciplinary approach and needs mutual co-operation of all experts in mixing technology. Moreover it was bad experience with parallel Sections held in the Conference in 1985 in Germany.

After long discussion about the programme of coming 11th European Conference on Mixing (Bamberg (Germany), September 2003) it was recommended to increase a number of papers accepted for Poster Session and to organize one Session (half a day) with parallel streams dealing with special industrial applications of mixing technology (e.g. Crystallizers, Bioreactors, Mixing equipment in food industry etc.). The Delegates remembered a successful joint Session with WP on Bioreactor Performance held on the occasion of the previous European Conference on Mixing in Paris.

Item 9:
Activities of the Industrial Committee within the EFCE - WPM.
Dr. J. Bertrand a Chairman of the Industrial Committee within the EFCE-WPM made a proposal to organize once per year anIndustrial Conference on Mixing in Europe (without Proceedings) held in industry, ie. at the manufacturers or users of mixing equipment. French colleagues have experience in organization of such Conferences with 80 - 90% attendance from industry. As example of the Conference topics can be mentioned e.g. CFD in mixing for practicioneers, mixing in food industry, etc. The EFCE-WPM Delegates discussed the above mentioned proposal and unanimously accepted to start to organize such a Conference as soon as possible. Dr. J. Betrand and his co-workers intend to hold suggested Event next year.

Item 10:
WPM Event in 2001.
The 4th International Symposium on Mixing in Industrial Processes (ISMIP 4) will be held in May 14 - 16, 2000 in Toulouse (France). The Chairman of the Conference is Dr. J. Bertrand. The ISMIP 4 is the fourth of a series of Events initiated in 1995 by P. Tanguy from Montreal (Canada), the first one being organized in Quebec (Canada). Other Meetings have been held in Cancun (Mexico)in 1997 and in Osaka (Japan) in 1999. The aim of the Conference is to exchange and discuss topics in the field of mixing, most particularly in the industrial area. It will be organized in plenary sessions with oral and poster presentations. Acceptance of papers is subject to the decision of an International Scientific Committee of reviewers based on two-page abstracts. Then the accepted full papers will be reviewed and classified in an appropriate oral and or poster session. A CD-ROM of the Proceedings will be available at the Conference. A selection of Papers will be published in a Special Issue of Chemical Engineering Research and Design. The Delegates discussed the above mentioned proposal. They appreciated expected contribution of the EFCE-WPM to the dissemination of the academic research among industrial users of mixing technology and agreed to held next EFCE-WPM Meeting on the occasion of the ISMIP 4 in Toulouse.

Item 11:
WPM Event in 2002.
Prof. P. Ditl suggested to organize the EFCE-WPM Meeting in 2002 on the occasion of the 15th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering CHISA 2002 to be held in Prague (Czech Republic) at the end of August 2002. The WPM delegates expressed their agreement with this proposal.

Item 12:
Miscellaneous.
Dr. I. Foøt informed the WPM Meeting that the EFCE-WPM Nomenclature "Mixing: Terms, Symbols and Units" was published in the journal Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Quarterly, Vol. 14 (No. 2), pp. 69 - 82 (2000). Prof. R. Calabrese a President of the North American Mixing Forum (NAMF) informed the WPM Meeting that the "MIXING XVIII", The 18 Biennial North American Mixing Forum Conference will be held in Ponoco Manor (Pensylvania, USA) in June 24 - 29, 2001. He requested the WPM to co-sponsor the Conference. The WPM Delegates expressed their pleasant agreement to co-sponsor such an important Event of Mixing in USA in 2001.
