GERMAN WORKING GROUP MIXING

Participants of the German Mixing Group come from industry, manufacturers of mixing systems, consulting engineers, research centers, and universities. During annual meetings the following goals should be achieved:

• determination of the state of art,
• assessment of new developments,
• discussion of common problems.

The topics which are presented in form of an oral presentation and a following discussion deal with mixing problems where the main component consists of solids, pastes or liquids of any viscosity. In all these fields the Working Group aims at

• investigations of basic phenomena,
• elaboration and experimental validation of scale-up rules
• mathematical modeling of the important apparatuses in mixing.

During the last years a cooperative test was carried out by nine members of the working group to establish experimental standards for measurements of various quantities in stirred tanks. On this basis reliable experimental results were achieved and now available for comparison. The data can be useful in particular

• for the valuation and optimization of new invented types of stirrers,
• as a basis for mathematical modeling and the set up of scale-up rules,
• as reliable data for numerical simulations.

The next meeting will take place in march 2001.
